Spin class today – Intervals

Today was a spin class workout.  We worked on interval training, although the instructor calls this particular workout a pyramid workout, even though it doesn’t pyramid (for those of you who follow Zappoman – that use to drive him crazy).

For the first half of the class I really struggled to get my heart rate above 160.  I felt like I was working really hard, but it just wouldn’t budge.  The second half it got up there and I eventually made it 10 times over 170 with a max of 179.  My average for the hour was 143, but that included a warm up and a warm down.

It was a good workout.  I am going to push myself this week.  I have three more weeks until my Chilly Hilly bike ride, and I would love to get down to 225 for that ride.   And for those counting, I have never ridden my bike weighing less than 225.

2007 Resolutions – Week 5 Results

I lost 1.1 pounds this week.  So far I’m down 10.3 pounds for the year and 26.2 pounds overall.  I still haven’t missed a day this year, and my streak is now at 35 days.

I mentioned last week that I was starting to get a little frustrated because I wasn’t losing very much weight.  This week my weight stated constant most of the week, finally dropping over the weekend.  The good news is that I didn’t stress about it early in the week.  I could tell that my face was feeling thinner, my pants were looser, and my fitness was better.  I began to trust the process and knew that even if I didn’t lose anything this week I was still getting ahead.  My patience paid off over the weekend.

For eating, my focus is on not eating past 8pm.  Sometimes this means I don’t eat anything after working out.  It really hasn’t been that bad.  During the week we had a company meeting and a board meeting – and I ended up eating pizza for lunch on both days.  It was probably the worst I’ve eaten so far this year, but I expect this week to be better.

My workouts have been consistent, but varied.  I plan on having more of a set schedule to my workouts, but maybe that won’t happen – and maybe it’s okay.  I focused mostly on cycling this week because I wanted to hit 300 miles before month-end.  I hit the goal.  I ended up cycling four times this week, and only ran and lifted once.  Again, this week should be a little less crazy (except for the weekend, when I’m in class for all of both days).

Here is how I did in week 5 against my goals:
