2007 Resolutions – Week #4 Results

January 29, 2007

I lost 0.6 pounds this week.  So far I’m down 9.1 pounds for the year and 25.1 pounds overall.  I worked out every day, and so far haven’t missed a day this year.  I also ran three times this week – a very big deal for me.

I am a little frustrated that I haven’t lost more than 1/2 pound the last couple of weeks.  I continue to focus on eating well and not on counting calories.  The food log I started at the beginning of the year has long faded in memory.  It’s interesting – I LOVE tracking my stats for exercising, but I’d rather bang my head against a nail than track what I ate, and I’m not even counting calories…

For exercising, my cycling took a big hit (only 25 miles), but I took up running and can now run for 1/2 hour.  I think I’ll still run walk some workouts, but it will be in order to interval train.  I still have an outside chance of hitting 300 miles cycling for the month.  I would need 60 miles in the next three days.  That’s my immediate goal.

I also walked three times this week.  This was more about stress relief than hardcore exercise.  Whenever I feel overwelmed, I walk- mainly for mental health, but also for recovery.  I always walk fast enough to sweat and I feel better physically (and mentally) when I walk.  In fact, when I bicycle tour, I notice a huge difference in my next day recovery if I walk in the evening after riding.

Here is how I did in week 4 against my goals:

  • For Weight loss:  My goal is to get under 200 pounds (or 10% bodyfat).  On a weekly basis,  I am targeting 1 pound a week.
    • I lost 0.6 pounds this week
    • My weight is now to 229.9 pounds (started the year at 239.1)
    • I have lost 9.2 pounds year to date
    • In total, I have now lost 25.1 pounds (from 255 lbs)
  • For Miles cycled:  My goal is 4,000 miles which equates to 80 per week.
    • I cycled 25 miles this week
    • I have cycled 245 miles year to date
  • For Hours exercised:  My goal is 300 hours, which equates to 6 hours per week.
    • I exercised 6.75 hours this week
    • I have exercise 27.25 hours year to date
    • I worked out every day this week
    • I have worked out every day this year (28 days in a row)
    • I worked out 9 times this week:
      • 2x cycling - 1.5 hrs
      • 1x weight lifting - 1.5 hrs
      • 3x running – 1.5 hrs
      • 3x walking – 2.25 hrs
  • For Blood Pressure:  My goal is to be at or below 120/80.
    • My BP was 138/72
    • Last week was 140/85.

Congrats on the progress on your exercise goals so far.

From the vintage point of someone who solely runs, you may want to consider giving yourself a day of rest once per week in your future workouts. Worrying about breaking your workout streak won’t be a problem since the day of rest is built into your workout regimen. Besides it’ll give time for your body to completely recover.

That’s what I typically do. Of course, I’m not discipled in more that one exercise activity (e.g. swimming, bicycling)–just running.

I’ll check back in to see what your opinion is of running outside, or as I call it, running on the great outdoor treadmill.

Well done so far! I’ve just started my blog (have been recording this stuff since day 1 though) as someone who is doing something very similar to you.

I’m using a few gadgets to help me along the way and, so far, I’ve lost 13lbs in 3 weeks. I’m pretty happy with that. Last week was pretty bad (only 2lbs), but I’m hoping to improve this week.

I have lots to lose, so I’m going to be at it a while – but it’s interesting reading your progress. Again, congrats.
